Soldiers Monument theme of new line of Caledonia products

New York has its I Love New York campaign slogan. Caledonia has its new slogan, Village by the Springs and now, a new line of items promoting Caledonia are springing up downtown. Caledonia merchants attended the Caledonia Town Board meeting to unveil the products and outline other promotional initiatives underway.

Rita Kanaley, co-owner of Country Junktion on Main Street, enlisted folk artist Penny Mooney to design a line of lawn of flags, matted prints, stationary and large outdoor flags, around the theme of Soldiers Monument. The products are available now in her shop. The large flags, which say Caledonia at the top and open at the bottom, are available at this time only to local merchants who will fly them during the hours they are open for business. Kanaley says already about 14 business owners have ordered the flags.

A group of merchants recently formed calling themselves the Caledonia Association of Businesses. Together with the Livingston County MicroEnterprise and Livingston County Tourism, they are also at work developing a slick brochure that will promote all of the local businesses, area events and attractions. The group hopes to have that out sometime this fall.

This past weekend, Country Junktion hosted the annual scarecrow festival on September 20, a fun event that draws local participants as well as many from the Western New York area. Kids and adults get to create their own scarecrow from, what else, old dungarees and straw! Just before the holiday shopping rush, Kanaley and 40 other vendors will host a Peddler’s Market on November 1 at J.W. Jones Hall, Rt. 36 in Caledonia. Proceeds from the $1 admission will go to help with the printing costs of the brochure.

If you love Caledonia and you really want to show it, pick up your Caledonia lawn flag, print or stationary and let the world know it.
