Living Word Family Church celebrates as a family
at final worship service

With the bright sun beaming through the skylights, the worshippers at Living Word Family Church in Caledonia gathered for their final Sunday service together on January 25, 2009 at their Main Street, Caledonia location. Though the church will no longer hold weekly worship services for its members, visitors and the community, the worship service was a celebration of family and the message was not of an ending, but of a new beginning.

Pastor Robert and Rev. Mary Kay Keeley started Living Word Family Church ten years ago in the living room of their Church Street, Caledonia home. In February 2000 they outgrew that space and moved in to the Empire Building on the west side of the village. Pastor Keeley said their mission was to preach the good news of Jesus Christ to the community and to establish a committed church family. Mary Kay Keeley delivered Sunday’s message and it was the same as it was a decade ago.

She reminded the family that the church is not the building; it is the people who make a commitment together; the bond between one another that hasn’t changed and will continue. Through a spirit-filled musical worship, the members celebrated all that God has done for them over the past decade and joyfully looked toward the future.

The Keeleys’ mission remains the same though the ministries of Pastor Bob and Rev. Mary Kay Keeley are taking on new directions.

"I felt the nudging of the Lord to get involved in prison ministry. Mary Kay is asked to speak at different churches and traveling around the world with her ministry, including a recent trip to Africa," the pastor remarked.

Keeley wants to work with parolees and their families as they make the transition back in to public life. He wants them to know that God is the God of forgiveness and second, third and fourth chances.

The name of the church, Living Word Family Church, appropriately described the church’s purpose for establishing itself ten years ago.

"The Word of God is alive and is God speaking to us today," Keeley said nine years ago when the church opened its doors. After all, Living Word Family Church is about ministering to families and families are a part of communities everywhere, in Caledonia, Rochester, New York, the United States and Africa. The Keeleys plan to continue taking their ministry of the full gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ and the gifts and baptism of the Holy Spirit, wherever families need it.

The office of Keeley Ministries will remain open at the Empire Building (same location as the church), 2926 Main Street, Caledonia. Mary Kay will continue to minister through speaking engagements locally, throughout the area and around the world.
