Rotary hosts exchange students from around the world

Cal-Mum Rotary in conjunction with Scottsville Rotary, welcomed 27 Rotary Youth Exchange students to the community for the annual Fall Weekend event. The students represent 20 different foreign nations and are residing in various communities throughout Rotary District 7120.

The students enjoyed a full weekend of events including spending all of Friday at Cal-Mum and Wheatland-Chili elementary, middle and high schools, a tour of WHAM 13 television studios and a visit to the Genesee Country Museum.

Youth Exchange Officer Doreen Webster said the students most enjoy their visits with other students in school. While many of them have limited English, they are able to overcome the language barrier and form a bond with other Rotary students and the American students as well. This was the first time all of the Rotary exchange students from District 7120 had the opportunity to meet and spend time together, Webster said.

Families in the two communities provided accommodations for the students for the weekend. Students participating in the Rotary Youth Exchange program stay one year with one or more host families in the community. The Cal-Mum Rotary Club this year is hosting Orlando Gutierres Delgado from Mexico. He is a student at Caledonia-Mumford High School.
